Leadership & Innovation

Introduction to Library Administration

Instructor: Prof. John N. Gathegi

Course Artifact: Strategic Plan

Dr. Gathegi was a man of few words but he always managed to show the import behind this subject. Looking at the bigger picture of libraries, and more specifically at management, made this a thought provoking core course. This course was vital to the leadership portion of our SLOs in that we were asked to both literally experience leadership, in our weekly group work, and in beginning to understand the history behind and importance of good administration practices. Knowing what has come before can be the catalyst to innovation. The assignment presented was to “Write a strategic plan for any type of library with an accompanying introductory memorandum to the appropriate supervisor or management group.”

Organization & Administration of School Media Center

Instructor: Dr. Natalie Taylor

Course Artifact: Virtually Curated Collection

(the original Power Point was too large for this site to save and had to be transferred to PDF format, the active links discussed in the curated collection are no longer functional)

It was my pleasure to work with Dr. Natalie Taylor in this class. In all honesty, I took the class thinking it would be a breeze because I had been doing this job in a school library for over three years at this point - was I ever wrong. I learned so much about the job that my passion for the job was reinvigorated! The curated collection assignment presented was one of the mind-blowing ideas that inspired me to continue on as a Library Media Specialist. The assignment displays professional cooperation and engagement with educators at your own school, but could just as easily be shared amongst all teachers in a school district that teach that particular subject.

Project Management for Information Professionals

Instructor: John J. Sullivan

Course Artifact: Case Study Presentation

This subject seemed like something that would come in handy in any profession. Prof. John Sullivan had years of work experience in project management and I learned a great deal about the nitty-gritty of large-scale projects and the role that leadership plays in projects that involve multitudes of layers, responsibilities and partnerships. The assignment shown was the major class project that involved presenting a case study of an existing past, present or future project of our own selection. As this is a narrated power point it will download immediately to your device after selecting the artifact and can be viewed thereafter by opening the download, selecting Slideshow from the menu bar and then selecting “Play from Start” in the upper left hand corner of the power point window.

 Innovation.
